History of Finaghy Baptist Church:

The Early Years

As far back as 1953 saw the tentative beginnings of an outreach into the community at Finaghy by Great Victoria Street Baptist Church for Sunday evening Gospel meetings in Finaghy Community Centre.

The next couple of months saw a successful Sunday school starting up. In October 1956 land was purchased opposite the community centre with the view to build.

Remarkably, prayer for God's guidance came in 1958 when Blacks Road Methodist Church came up for sale, due to the congregation outgrowing the premises. In July 1958 the building was purchased and the official opening was held on 23rd of October 1958. The first service was conducted by Pastor Hugh Orr of Great Victoria St Baptist.
